I’m reading about formula 1 – this infographic (at the bottom) says the driver burns around 1200 calories during the average race, that’s 600 cal/hr assuming the race goes to its 2-hr time limit (usually ends before then).
I looked it up on Wolfram Alpha – that’s like jogging 12km/hour for 2 hours…. so basically they are exercising the same as if they were jogging at 2x walking speed, the whole time.
I knew the drivers worked hard, but not that hard! Factor in the mental exertion and you can understand why they’re exhausted after the race.
